Plan for decades, not months

African greys can live for many decades. Care planning should include veterinary access, social routine, sleep, enrichment and trusted support for holidays or emergencies.

Warning: Do not choose an African grey unless the long-term care commitment is fully understood.

Use enrichment as daily care

Foraging, shredding, training, climbing and problem solving should be part of the day, not occasional extras. A bored parrot can develop serious welfare problems.

Helpful tip: Rotate toys by purpose: foraging, chewing, climbing and training rewards.

Keep diet specialist

Seed-heavy diets can cause long-term problems. Use avian-vet-informed feeding with appropriate pellets, safe vegetables and measured extras.
